MTV’s ‘Awkward’ Gets Supersized Season 3 Renewal

The writers and producers of MTV’s Awkward must have a lot more embarrassment planned for Jenna (Ashley Rickards). The scripted series was just renewed for a third supersized season.
MTV has already ordered 20 episodes of the comedy from writer-producer Lauren Ungerich – more than double its previous seasons’ orders.
Awkward debuted last year as part of the network’s scripted series push and became a critical and ratings success. This season, its audience is up six percent over Season 1, attracts 1.8 million viewers a week and is the No. 1 show in its time slot with MTV’s younger-skewing target audience, the 12-34 group and teens.
The series follows Jenna who suddenly moved out of high school obscurity when an accident is mistakenly labeled a suicide attempt. The first season also detailed the ups and downs of secretly hooking up with handsome jock, Matty (Beau Mirchoff), and an anonymous letter detailing the many ways she’s damaged.
Season 2 is currently airing and picked up after the reveal that her mother was behind the “care-frontation” letter and Jenna had decided to date Matty’s best friend and all around good guy, Jake (Brett Davern).
Awkward also stars Jillian Rose Reed, Nikki Deloach and Molly Tarlov.
